Municipal utility in Helsingborg planning carbon capture at its waste-fired Filbornaverket combined heat and power plant, designed for about 200,000 tonnes of CO2 a year of which roughly half is biogenic. Helsingborg's city council approved the investment on 19 May 2026 and the company has taken a final investment decision. The CO2 is to be buffered at the port of Halmstad and stored under the North Sea. Start-up is targeted for 2029, with sources differing between 2028 and 2029. The property company Wihlborgs has signed a ten-year agreement for 10,000 tonnes a year. BioCCS is an adopted CRCF methodology, no CRCF certification is confirmed for this project yet.
